About BCD
Berkshire Country Day School is an independent, coeducational school serving students from pre-kindergarten (three-year-olds) through grade 9. Founded in 1946, BCD has been located since 1963 at Brook Farm, its beautiful 27-acre campus just south of Tanglewood in Lenox, Massachusetts. BCD's students are primarily from Berkshire and Columbia Counties.
BCD is widely known for its strong focus on academic achievement, with a sophisticated traditional curriculum that includes the following subjects: English, History, Geography, Science, Mathematics, Computer, Classics, Modern Languages, Art, Performing Arts, Shop, Library, Physical Education and Interscholastic Sports.
A BCD education emphasizes writing and study skills. Students make use of a 13,000 volume, on-campus library linked to the Internet.BCD offers state-of-the-art educational computer technology that includes broadband high-speed internet access, wireless connectivity throughout the buildings, and wireless peer collaboration opportunities both in and out of the classroom.
There is an extensive field trip program, an after-school interscholastic program, and a community service program. For pre-school children through grade 4, there is an after-school program which provides informal activities such as arts and crafts, games, and outdoor play.
But no educational institution can be fully understood through a recitation of statistics and a listing of programs. The real character of a school is more subtle and pervasive, persisting over the years through changes in students and faculty, through adjustments to curriculum and calendar. Indeed, the most striking quality visitors to BCD encounter is a vibrant sense of community. Daily interactions between older and younger students, as well as all-school celebrations and traditions, reveal a sense of shared purpose and values.
For over a half a century, parents have been a vital part of the BCD community. Many parents volunteer their time and talents to BCD in many different capacities, from helping out in classrooms to serving on the Board of Trustees. Teachers and administrators are always eager to work with parents for their children's benefit.
