The Third Annual Poetry Contest sponsored by Mnemosyne, the high school's literary magazine, again drew submissions from more than one third of our student body. This year our distinguished panel of judges included Michele Gillette, poet and author of Blinding the Goldfinches and Op Ed columnist for The Berkshire Eagle; J. Peter Bergman, poet, winner of The National Charles Dickens Award and member of The Berkshire Eagle staff; Maria Black, novelist and former editor of The Women's Times; Melissa Mishcon, poet and former poetry and fiction editor for The Artful Mind; Barry Sternlieb, poet and president of Mad River Press; Laird White, poet and lyricist; Skip Meade, poet, lecturer, and Director, California Subject Examinations for Teachers.
This year's first place prize of $100.00 goes to senior Clara Patterson for her poem, Villanelle. Receiving honorable mentions of $25.00 each is senior Ben Camp for Triangle and sophomore Dan Kleederman for I'll Never Be a Rabbi. Congratulations to all poets involved in this annual event! The work of our winners will be published in the Spring issue of Mnemosyne. | | |
