One of the easiest ways to make a meaningful gift to BCD is through your will. A well-planned will can provide family benefits and complete your stewardship goals from your estate. There are a number of bequest giving methods:
• A percentage bequest expresses your gift as a percent of estate value. For instance, "I bequeath to The Berkshire Country Day School in Lenox, MA 5 percent of my total estate."
• A specific bequest designates what and how much you leave to a particular cause.
• A residual bequest gives to Berkshire Country Day School all that remains after debts, taxes, expenses, and designations to individuals have been deducted from the estate.
In some cases, a bequest by testamentary trust is advantageous. We advise that you work with your attorney and financial advisors to plan the charitable arrangement that is best for your estate.
Sample bequest language:
"I give, devise, and bequeath to the Trustees of The Berkshire Country Day School, a corporation duly existing under the laws of the State of Massachusetts, and located in Lenox in said state, _____ dollars ($_____), or _____ percentage (_____%) of my residuary estate, whichever is less, to be used for the benefit of The Berkshire Country Day School as the Trustees thereof may direct."
